FOREWORD TO THE ENGLISH EDITION
It gives me great pleasure to be able to write this Foreword for an extraordinary new book, MRI and MR Angiography Atlas of Musculoskeletal Pathology: Hand, Foot, Wrist & Ankle, by Guido Liessi and Federica Liessi. I have had the opportunity to read and study the English translation of this book, provided by Drs. Biondetti, Esposito, and Lo Gullo, and I find the material fascinating and unique, well-organized, and beautifully illustrated.
In this work is gathered a large number of MR angiographic and perfusion studies that illustrate the vascular alterations that accompany a vast array of disease processes of the musculoskeletal system.
This type of material is not available in other texts dealing with bone, joint, and soft tissue disorders, and it is instructive, even refreshing, to find a source in which this information is clearly displayed and explained. Further, the vascular manifestations of one disease are compared with those of others to emphasize points of differential diagnosis that will allow more accurate assessment of the images.
And the images themselves are carefully chosen and well-displayed. There are detailed legends, accompanying diagrams, and selected references, additional features that increase the value of the text.
I know quite well the dedication required to bring forth such a beautiful text, the long hours of work that test one’s motivation and skill. With this in mind, I congratulate Drs. Guido and Federica Liessi as they together have produced something that many radiologists, orthopaedic surgeons, rheumatologists, and other specialists will find useful in their daily work. This material simply is not available elsewhere. This is a book that should be kept close at hand as, I believe, it will be used often and become indispensable. On a personal note, I am honored to be able to write the Foreword for this book.
