From the Foreword
The author of this extraordinary book is well known for his contributions to the histological literature, especially books designed to provide instruction to students and their instructors. The abundance, quality and selection of the illustrations is outstanding. Each chapter is illustrated by both light and electron micrographs. Thus, the reader can easily make the transition between the more familiar light images and the higher resolution electron micrographs. The former are especially elegant, indeed it is doubtful whether any text is illustrated by a finer collection of colored plates. The quality of the engravings and the color printing are superb. Added to that, the author, with a longtime experience in teaching histology, has made a valuable choice of micrographs and has organized their presentation in a most logical fashion. Again, I must say that this book is a gem among books of this type. Each chapter is introduced by a few pages of text, succinctly stated, plus carefully selected diagrams and graphics. These few pages are followed by more numerous pages of illustrations with entirely adequate legend. The translation is characterized for its precision and simple style. The author and the publisher deserve congratulations for putting together this exquisite offering to the histological literature. It should enjoy a long life and go down as a milestone in the evolution of such books.
